“Deep cherry red. Light cherry aroma, touch of peppery spice, smells fresh rather than sweet.
Terrific introduction to Dão – red cherry fruit, a firm but polite grip from the tannins and an
immediate association with the granite rock of the region. Avoids the intense perfume of Tourigal
National in favour of a sense of place. Both dry and lively. Juicy, fresh and not weighted down by
alcohol or oak. Probably made for drinking now but has the constitution to do well in bottle for
at least a couple of years. Perfect supper/house red.” by Julia Harding @ jancisrobinson.com

Adega Cooperativa de Penalva do Castelo produces the indigenous blend wine series for
Portuguese Story. The grapes express well the terroir and we aim for gentle and easy drinking
wines, as Julia Harding says – Terrific Introductions to Dão.
Critics Review | Dão is just south of the Douro and home to some of Portugal’s most underrated red and white wines. A blend of 40% Touriga Nacional, 30% Tinta Roriz (Tempranillo) and 30% Jaen (Mencía) this is made by the Adega co-op and is bright and juicy and packed with cherry fruits, some grippy notes on the mid palate and a fruit driven finish — perfect for picnics, pizza or barbecues. - Leslie Williams |
