The Corkscrew was originally founded by Peter Foley. The first shop opened in 1978 on Aughrim Street. Peter has worked in the wine trade for over 40 years and in that time he managed the Irish Division of the very prominent Berry Bros and Rudd Wine Merchants. Berry’s was a high-quality wine shop with a superb city-centre location in Dublins former "Weights & Measures" building. Peter and his son Paul decided to embark on a mission to find their own premises in the heart of Dublin so they could continue to source brilliant wines that people got excited about.
The Corkscrew as you know it first opened its doors at Number 4 Chatham Street on March 24th, 2004. Despite our modest size premises we boast a huge selection of quality wines that offer individuality and value. We quickly became known as “The biggest little wine shop in Dublin” but this is about to change! Over the years we have grown from strength to strength, survived a recession and a pandemic, and this is primarily down to excellent customer service and the extensive wine knowledge of our hardworking team. Today Paul Foley and his wife FIona continue to manage and own The Corkscrew and are as passionate about all things wine as they were 19 years ago.
Our Philosophy is quite simple: to select wines that demonstrate the character and independence that we demand, and wines that deliver quality style and individuality regardless of price.
Terrific everyday wines, new world icons, established classics - they all have a place on our shelves.
We are the biggest little wine shop in Dublin. We boast the largest selection of Lebanese wine in the country and one of the best selections of Champagne. At present we source 40% of our own stock and are proud to deal with small boutique growers who are as passionate about their product as we are. We have something to suit everyone’s taste in store.
