WINEMAKER NOTES
This wine made history when it became one of the earliest single-vineyard bottlings of Nebbiolo in Piedmont with the 1967 vintage. Sourced from the GAJA winery’s top growing site, San Lorenzo, located just south of the village of Barbaresco in the famed cru Secondine, the wine is made with 100% Nebbiolo grapes.
Deep red color, the 2014 Sori San Lorenzo shows aromas of licorice, black tea, savory and balsamic herbs notes, graphite and violet come out slowly in the glass giving birth to a complex and layered bouquet. The most recognizable and ageable of the three single vineyards. Intense fruit expression of red orange, ripe blueberry, red and black plum, complex botanical flavors of Mediterranean spices like oregano, basil and thyme. The mineral finish is powerful and persistent. Compact structure and great ageing potential.ABV 14%

Nestled on a steep hill in Langhe is the quaint village of Barbaresco, where the renowned GAJA winery resides. The essence of GAJA Winery lies in its founding principle: crafting unique wines that embody their origin, reflecting the heritage and customs of their creators. This belief has guided five generations towards excellence in winemaking.
The journey began more than 150 years ago when Giovanni Gaja established a small eatery in Barbaresco, creating wine to complement his dishes. In 1859, he founded the Gaja Winery, producing some of Piedmont's earliest bottled wines distributed beyond the region. Each generation, notably Clotilde Rey - Angelo Gaja's grandmother, has left an indelible mark on the winery through their commitment to uncompromising quality.
In 1961, Angelo Gaja embarked on a mission to elevate the winery further by introducing barriques - 225-liter French oak barrels. Under his leadership, GAJA led the way in crafting single-vineyard designated wines and planting non-traditional varietals like Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, and Sauvignon Blanc in Piedmont. His efforts also contributed significantly to raising Nebbiolo grape's status globally.
Today, Angelo Gaja collaborates with his children Gaia and Rossana along with son Giovanni – representing the fifth generation of the GAJA family. Together they uphold and advance the winery's rich heritage. All GAJA wines are meticulously crafted from grapes grown exclusively in estate-owned vineyards spanning across Barbaresco and Barolo districts as well as estates in Pieve Santa Restituta (Montalcino) and Ca’Marcanda (Bolgheri). It is within these revered vineyards and their unique terroir that GAJA wines truly express their essence and character."

| Critics Review | 97 Points - Jeb DunnuckThe 2014 Barbaresco Sori San Lorenzo is certainly one of more structured, masculine 2014s. From more limestone soils and a slightly cooler, south facing hillside, it offers a deeper ruby color to go with beautiful notes of black cherries, currants, wood smoke, white flowers, and an undeniable minerality. Like all the 2014s, it’s incredibly elegant on the palate, with a Burgundian-like texture, fine tannin, and terrific length. As with the Sori Tildin, it unwinds with time in the glass, yet needs 4-5 years of bottle age and is going to cruise in the cellar for 20-25+ years. |
