Zin & Grill - Californian Zinfandel, The Perfect Summer Grilling Partner
- by My Store Admin
Zin & Grill
With temperatures set to soar this week, we've the perfect excuse to dust off the BBQs and crack open some Zinfandel. The versatile flavour profile of California Zinfandels make them the perfect match for summer grilling. Hailed as California’s heritage grape, Zinfandel originated in Europe and is genetically identical to both Italy’s Primitivo and Croatia’s Tribidrag. The Zinfandel name, however, is truly American; the earliest documented use was recorded in 1832 in Boston, when a nursery owner advertised Zinfandel for sale.
Introduced to California during the 1850s Gold Rush, Zinfandel thrived in the state’s warm Mediterranean climate and is today, the third-leading winegrape variety grown in California. We've highlighted some of our best-selling below.
Later on this month, (date tbc but we will let you know) these wines will be open for tasting and we have collaborated with an exceptionally talented chef, who will have a delicious range of grilled Brazilian treats to accompany these wines. We're honoured that Viktor has agreed to do this for us because, on July 23rd he will open "Amai By Viktor" We appreciate that this is a very busy time for him finalising the details, and we'd like to thank him for doing this. The restaurant is now taking bookings.
De Loach "Heritage Collection" Zinfandel, California 2022 - Buy Here
€26.95
Big, bold and fruity and what we like to call an "armchair wine". This Zinfandel has aromas of ripe blackberries, black cherry and sweet spices. The palate is full-bodied with ripe tannins and bold fruit, tempered by well-integrated oak. We don't often think of a BBQ as a vegetarian option, but this wine is vegan friendly and is a super accompaniment not only for meat but it shines alongside salads with berries, strong cheeses, grilled veg and anything rich in flavour.

Their accolades in the Decanter World Wine Awards and IWC prove to an international market that their Zins not only measure up to the competition, but are in the top rank. This is a richly-textured and elegant Zinfandel brimming with notes of blackberry, blackcurrant, plum, dark cherry and savoury allspice aromas. The palate is bright with supple tannins and a hint of vanilla on the finish. The bold flavours of dark fruits pair beautifully with grilled meats and smokey sauces.

The Cortina Zinfandel from Seghesio is a masterful expression of Dry Creek Valley terroir and an elegant structure from nearly 50-year-old vines. "Coming from the Dry Creek Valley in Sonoma, the 2019 Zinfandel Cortina is a rocking Zinfandel that plays in the more elegant, medium-bodied end of the spectrum, yet it still brings loads of fruit, texture, and classic Zinfandel charm."
