Today is Open That Bottle Night. Since its official inauguration in 2000, OTBN falls on the last Saturday in February and is now a world-wide celebration of family, friends and wine. Special occasions don’t happen very often but are almost always welcomed by everyone. It’s a reminder that the “perfect moment” isn’t something to wait for, it’s something you create. Whether it’s a treasured bottle you’ve been saving or a new favourite you’ve yet to discover, this is the perfect excuse to pull the cork and enjoy it.
We've had a bit of fun discussing what we'll be opening tonight and why. To mark the occasion, we’ve a special offer on our recommendations so that you can celebrate in style. If there was ever a night not to wait, this is it.

Paul will be cracking this Burgundy open. He says "A full bodied Pinot Noir that brings back memories of my very first wine trip abroad. It's a serious and accomplished wine with lots of red fruits and a somewhat spicy edge that will pair extremely well with Duck."

Thörle, Spätburgunder Saulheimer Hölle, Rheinhessen, Germany 2021 - BUY HERE
Was €99.95 Now €69.95
Peter has chosen this German Pinot that's up there with some of the finest Pinots in the world. He said "It's very appealing, especially to Burgundy fans at a fraction of the price."

Casa Emma "Soloio" , Merlot IGT, Italy 2021 - BUY HERE
Was €64.95 Now €49.95
Jordan's wine of choice is the first wine in Tuscany to be made only from Merlot, hence its name, which means ‘only me’. He said he "Had it over Christmas. A lovely ripe full-bodied Merlot which goes incredibly well with roast beef or a nice cheese board! Coming from someone who isn't usually a fan of Merlot!"

Kaiken Ultra Mendoza Malbec - Buy Here
Was €26.95 Now €20.95
Tom will be toasting OTBN with this lush Malbec. He said "This is a great wine to pair with any and all beef dishes but will absolutely stand alone as an amazing, flavourful Malbec. This has made its way from the shop to my home on more than one occasion. Sip and savour!"

Thörle Riesling Trocken 2024 - BUY HERE
Was €22.95 Now €17.95
When we asked Jack for his one, lets just say he's torn betwee two...
"When I first started at The Corkscrew, my wine knowledge left a bit to be desired. But, keen to learn in the only way you should, by trying, I asked for a recommendation on a white German wine from one of my colleagues. Having never tried any German wine I was intrigued. This Riesling was the first port of call. Since then I've tried many other wines but I fall back to this reliable Riesling more often than not."

Thörle Saulheim Kalk & Kreide Chardonnay & Pinot Blanc 2023 - BUY HERE
Was €36.95 Now €28.95
"Another fantastic wine that stands up to any premier Cru Chablis for a fraction of the price."

Elizabeth Spencer Pinot Noir, Sonoma Coast, 2022 - BUY HERE
Was €65.95 Now €50.95
Leo will be indulging in one of our newer arrivals. He said "Pinot Noir is my favourite grape, and this wine by Elizabeth Spencer certainly is exciting. As someone who was raised on big and bold Rioja and Ribera del Duero wines from my home country of Spain, the subtlety, fragrance and soft juicinness of Pinot Noir always captivates me. This Sonoma Coast Pinot is aged in french oak and strikes a beautiful balance in terms of silky tannins and a vibrant acidity that will make this a beautiful wine to pair a meal with. I think it undoubtedly merits this occasion!"
