Château De Beaucastel, Chateauneuf De-Pape Rouge 2019

€125.00
In stock
This wine is made from all 13 authorized grape varieties from Beaucastel's single plot in northern Chateauneuf-du-Pape. It has an unusually high percentage of old vine Mourvedre which gives power and structure to the wine.
This wine is vibrant ruby in colour with aromas of blackberry, plum and raspberry alongside hints of dark chocolate. On the palate, it has a lively acidity with delicate notes of ripe red fruit, liquorice, and pepper. Well-structured soft tannins support this rich wine through to a smooth lingering finish.

ABV 14.5%

Grape Varieties - 30% Grenache, 30% Mourvèdre, 10% Shiraz, 10% Counoise and the rest is a blend of other permitted red varieties.

The 16th century Château de Beaucastel was acquired by the Perrin family in the early 1900s. With a global following for their benchmark Châteauneuf du Pape, the wines at this historic property are consistently among the finest in the region.
Château de Beaucastel owns 110 hectares of vineyards in the north of the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation, where they grow all 13 grape varieties authorised by the appellation rules. The vines are farmed organically and are on average 50-years-old. They are planted on pudding stone soils, which are traditional to the Southern Rhône. These stones retain heat from the day and keep the vines warm at night, helping to ripen the grapes. The sub-soils are made up of sand, clay and limestone.

Critics Review Decanter 96 Points
Immediately rich and damson-scented with a shot of cassis running through it. A medium-bodied, very classic vintage with good freshness. Has a good sense of weight and drive, not endlessly deep like 2017 or 2016 but perfectly balanced. Should age well into the medium, if not long term, but what's more important is that it's extremely delicious, balanced and fresh. Grenache and Cinsault fermented in cement, Syrah and Mourvèdre fermented in foudre. A little less Syrah this year."
