Founded in 1877 in the Tuscan hills of Pontassieve, near Florence, Ruffino has been a 
pioneer of Italian wine for nearly 150 years. From its very first days, Ruffino took a bold
new approach to winemaking — bridging the gap between rustic farmhouse wines and
aristocratic blends to create something new: a world-class expression of quality Chianti for
global export.

Ruffino’s rise was swift. By the late 1800s, the winery was receiving international acclaim
and the personal endorsement of luminaries like Giuseppe Verdi. By 1890, Ruffino had
become an official supplier to the Royal Court of Italy, following a visit from the Duke of
Aosta, inspiring the creation of its most iconic label: Riserva Ducale, later followed by
Riserva Ducale Oro.

Over the next century, Ruffino’s leadership helped shape the global image of Chianti and
Tuscan wine. They were the first Chianti to arrive in the US, a key symbol of La Dolce Vita
in the 1950s, and a leader in the Supertuscan movement with the release of Modus and,
later, Modus Primo and Alauda. Their signature flask, the fiasco, became a cultural icon —
one of the great symbols of Italian spirit and craftsmanship.

Today, Ruffino continues to lead through innovation and quality. With eight estates across
Tuscany and Veneto, over 600 hectares of vineyards, and a world-class winemaking team,
Ruffino produces everything from elegant Chianti Classico to fine Super Tuscans and
premium Prosecco. Their estates include names like Poggio Casciano, Montemasso, and La
Solatìa, and all are on track to be fully organic by 2025.

Under the guidance of Constellation Brands since 2011, Ruffino has embraced a modern,
sustainability-driven approach — earning Biodiversity Friend status and aiming for carbon
neutrality by 2035. The brand has also launched a bold, design-led campaign to elevate
Ruffino to a new level of international luxury.
