Château Langoa Barton has a particularly strong Irish connection. The Barton family's Bordeaux story began when Thomas Barton left Ireland for France in 1722, establishing a successful wine merchant business in Bordeaux. His grandson Hugh Barton purchased Château Langoa in Saint-Julien in 1821, and the estate was subsequently recognised as a Third Growth in the prestigious 1855 Bordeaux Classification. Remarkably, it remains in Barton family ownership today, with the family's tenth generation continuing its legacy. Its 20 hectares of vineyards are planted on the gravel soils of Saint-Julien, producing elegant, structured and age-worthy Cabernet Sauvignon-led wines.
