Irish whiskey, Irish wood and Midleton at its most adventurous, a genuinely fascinating addition to the Very Rare collection.

A remarkable new expression from Midleton Very Rare, the Irish Chestnut Edition showcases both the craftsmanship of Midleton Distillery and the character of one of Ireland's more unusual native woods.

This cask-strength Single Pot Still Irish Whiskey has been finished in virgin Irish sweet chestnut hogsheads, crafted using wood sourced from the historic Cappoquin House estate in Co. Waterford.

Bottled at 56.1% ABV, triple distilled and non-chill filtered, the Irish Chestnut Edition allows the rich, spicy character of Midleton's Single Pot Still whiskey to meet the distinctive influence of Irish sweet chestnut. The result is a powerful yet beautifully refined whiskey, with layers of fruit, warming spice and rich wood character developing across the palate.

An intriguing and highly distinctive Midleton release, and a fascinating addition for collectors and lovers of exceptional Irish whiskey.

Tasting Notes
Rich, complex and beautifully expressive, with ripe orchard fruit, sweet vanilla and warming pot still spice leading into deeper notes of toasted nuts, dark caramel and polished wood. The Irish sweet chestnut brings an intriguing layer of richness and spice, while the cask-strength bottling gives the whiskey impressive depth and intensity. The finish is long, warming and luxurious, with lingering fruit, spice and beautifully integrated wood.

Midleton Very Rare Irish Chestnut Edition

Product Description

Midleton Very Rare Sweet Chestnut Edition is a
worldfirst Irish whiskey, finished in Irish sweet chestnut
hogshead casks crafted from wood sourced at the
historic Cappoquin Estate on the banks of the Munster
Blackwater river in County Waterford.
This pioneering and highly selective finishing approach
delivers an exceptionally rare and distinctive expression,
defined by a rich, sweet character. Layers of indulgent
caramel are complemented by distinctive earthy wood
notes, showcasing Midleton’s signature craftsmanship
while confidently pushing the boundaries of Irish whiskey tradition.

Nose

Decadent aromas of honey-drizzled red apple and
caramelised orange peel. Luscious tones of smooth,
melted chocolate and toffee fudge are harmoniously
balanced by the heightened woodland spices including
nutmeg, cinnamon and sandalwood. The rich and nutty
undertones further accentuate the savoury nature
of this wonderfully complex whiskey.

Taste

Sweet orchard fruits with subtle hints of citrus are closely
followed by generous waves of vanilla, chocolate shavings
and soft wood tannins, complementing the pot still spices
and delicate herbs. The spices continue to build with
notes of freshly crushed pepper and a mild prickle of
chilli oil, while carefully balanced by the textured and
full-bodied character of this aged pot still whiskey.

Finish

Lasting finish which sees the fruits slowly fading, leaving
the pot still spices and chestnut wood have the final say.
