A luxurious Rioja that is impossible to resist, “Roda I” is the jewel in the crown of Bodegas Roda. A special-occasion red that will dress up the winter holidays and keep you warm on the coldest of nights. It's an example of the elegance of RODA I, very fine on the palate, with excellent tannin, silky and lively at the same time. Plums and cherries fill the mouth, slightly liqueur and fresh, it is a perfect and difficult balance. It is very long, with a powerful retronasal route. The excellent quality of the aged oak appears subtly and the cocoa and sweet spices finish off a sensation of enormous pleasure. It grows in the glass as is normal for RODA I. A great wine to drink now, which will improve a lot over the years. View Tasting Video Here

Bodegas Roda was founded in 1987 and is considered “the most modern of the traditionalists and the most traditional of the modernists.” Roda works with a total of 120 hectares - 70 owned by Roda and 50 by contracted growers - all bush vines; no irrigation; minimum intervention (no chemically synthesized products and use of cover crops). Their uncompromising commitment to quality is evident in the extensive research and development department and the state of the art gravity flow winery which includes the seventeen Seguin Moreau foudre for fermentation, radiant heat malolactic room, and extensive aging cellar.

Critics Review | JS 94 - James Suckling This is rich, complex and assertively oaked with a ripe thread of dark and red-cherry and plum aromas that follow to the palate with a smooth, polished-tannin quality. Drink or hold. V 93 - Vinous Vivid ruby-red. A complex, highly perfumed bouquet evokes ripe dark berries, cherry preserves, vanilla and potpourri, with a smoky mineral quality adding vibrancy. Sappy, seamless and broad on the palate, offering alluringly, concentrated sweet blackberry, cherry-cola, spicecake and violet pastille flavors and a touch of mocha. Shows impressive persistence on the supple, floral- and spice-driven finish, which is framed by fine-grained tannins that sneak in slowly. |
