Section 94 is number 35 on the top 100 value wines of 2021 from James Suckling.

Dog Point's flagship single vineyard sauvignon, is wild-fermented in barrel resulting in a fuller bodied, textural style of Sauvignon Blanc. Pale straw in colour. Warm and ripe fruit spectrum of citrus, mango and white peach with complex barrel fermentation characters of toast, biscuits and smoky, flinty, reductive characters typical of Section 94. On the palate creamy and round upfront with a crisp and focussed finish. Perfect with Match with poultry and pork dishes, fish, vegetable dishes and soft white cheeses

ABV 14.5%

Hand picked and gently pressed to tank for 24 hours of settling prior to eighteen months fermentation and aging in older French Oak barrels. 100% natural ferment. Bottled without fining and only minimal filtration.

A mild spring free of frost alerts, resulted in an extremely good budburst with nice even growth across all varieties. Above average early/mid-summer temperatures with generally settled weather ensured an excellent flowering and fruit set, with January the warmest in over 60 years of statistical records. This led to one of our earliest harvests, however the month also produced another climatic record with by far the highest rainfall recorded for February, necessitating additional canopy management, under vine weeding and inter row mowing.
Low cropping with good open canopies allowed sunlight and wind penetration to do their job, which certainly won the day in a testing, but rewarding vintage.

Located in Marlborough, New Zealand’s premium wine growing region, Dog Point Vineyard is one of Marlborough's oldest privately owned vineyards. It was established in 2002 by partners, Ivan & Margaret Sutherland, and James & Wendy Healy. After working together at Cloudy Bay, Ivan and James decided to return to a more hands-on approach and establish their own wine label. They produce wines that reflect the experience and passion of the people that make them.

Dog Point Vineyard and winery are certified organic under the Biogro New Zealand programme, which is an independent certification process established to promote environmentally friendly, sustainable and responsible practices. These organic philosophies drive their approach to wine making and help ensure the vines are their best for next year’s harvest.

Four wines are produced at Dog Point Vineyard - a sauvignon blanc typical of the Marlborough style, ‘Section 94’, a barrel fermented Sauvignon Blanc, a Chardonnay and a Pinot Noir.

In every bottle of wine there is impeccable attention to detail and a thoughtful hands-on approach. This focus is expertly partnered with a low interventionist ethos. Fruit is hand-picked from low cropped, estate-grown vines, grown under organic principles, then hand crafted with great care to produce fine wines that are accessible and enjoyable, that will drink well on release or cellar gracefully for many years.

All wines are gluten free and vegan friendly.

Flinty, reductive notes open up to lime zest, white grapefruit, dried pineapple, hay, white pepper and hints of praline. Medium-bodied with sharp acidity and a phenolic, tight and taut palate. Focused and long. Drink or hold. Screw cap.
