Chateau Godeau 2016 is a blend of 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc. Vinification was for a period of 4 weeks prior to malolactic fermentation in French oak barrels, a third of which were new, where the wine was matured for 18 months prior to bottling.
The world-renowned Stéphane Derenoncourt, and his team, are consultant winemakers.
An overall attractive color. A nose full of aromas of ripe red berries and yellow fruit mixed with toasty notes. Full and fleshy on the palate with coated tannins. Medium-bodied overall with a sweet undertone in the finale. Very enthusiastically received by wine critics.
90-92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: The 2016 Chateau Godeau from proprietor Albéric Florisoone, has a clean and precise bouquet with fine delineation and poise. I like this! The palate is fresh from the start. There is superb structure here, fine acidity, plenty of black fruit laced with minerals and a vibrant, vivid finish with superb salinity. Do not overlook this little gem; it would not surprise me if it lands towards the upper end of by bracketed score.

The estate comprises some 7 hectares of vineyards located in the heart of Saint-Emilion’s prestigious vineyards close to famous neighbours like Chateau La Mondotte and Chateau Tertre Roteboeuf. They are some of the highest vineyards in the appellation at 103m above sea level and are situated in the commune of Saint Laurent des Combes. The vineyards are primarily situated on limestone / clayey soils which allows good drainage but it also good for retaining moisture. The vineyards have a steep north / north west aspect and the vines have an average age of 45 years old. The vineyards are suited to Merlot mainly and are planted with 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc.

Critics Review 91-92 points James Suckling: Cherry and berry aromas and flavors make this very fruity. Full body and round and juicy tannins. Like it. Remake of the 2015.
