The Pommery "Pop" Champagne provides the perfect aperitif.
Next a superb white. This Arinto is very similar to a Sancerre or Pouilly Fumé from the Loire Valley but more keenly priced. The nose is perfumed and layered with notes of citrus fruits and minerality. The palate is crisp and clean and has flavours of green apples, nettles and grass and there is still a coolness of mineral content that belies the very reasonable price.
Lastly to red and to Bordeaux. Segonzac hails from the Cotes de Blaye, a satellite appellation of the great St. Emilion. Offering similar concentration and styles to its neighbour, it offers better value for money and equals and surpasses many from its illustrious neighbour.
