The outstanding 2009 Cotes du Rhone-Villages Cairanne La Brunote (60% Grenache, 30% Mourvedre and 10% Carignan from white clay soils) was aged 12 months in larger wood demi-muids before being bottled unfiltered. Revealing slightly more concentrated blue, red and black fruits, lavender, incense and white chocolate notes, it offers an opaque ruby/purple color along with full body and a long finish. €20.95This is a blend of 60% Grenache, 15% Syrah, 15% Mourvedre, 5% Carignan, and 5% Cinsault. The fruit was hand-harvested, destemmed, fermented with indigenous yeasts, and aged in concrete tanks. This wine is a medium opaque, grapey-purple color. Over two nights the nose remained subtle with dark aromas. In the mouth there are plenty of blue-black fruits that are ripe and muscular from the get-go. The spices mix with ripe tannins which dry the cheeks before taking on a fine quality in the aftertaste. The nose is dark and sweet with ripe fruit which has a floral backing and hints of blueberry.
