A complex, ruby-red wine that has hints of violet and eucalyptus which give way to chocolate, spice and white pepper in the mouth. This is a big wine that stands up well to grilled local meats. Fermentation in American Oak, followed by 12 months aging in French oak, give this wine finesse, with silky tannins and a full mouth-feel. Mouchao Alentejo 2005
€37.95The 2006 TINTO opens tight, with strong herbal notes, a little roasted cherry nuance, and, after extended aeration, a touch of game. It has fine mid-palate concentration. The Alicante Bouschet (80%) seems quite ripe and the Trincadeira (20%) seems a bit assertive, likely responsible for a little funk. It is a complex flavor profile that I suspect will not be to everyone’s taste, but those who like it will probably love the wine. As always with this winery, it is a well constructed wine with a lingering finish that should age very well.
