Domaine de la Vougeraie Charmes-Chambertin ''Les Mazoyeres'' Grand Cru 2009
€136.00Almost surprisingly as this is often quite reserved the bright red berry fruit nose cut with Kirsch, warm earth, iron and underbrush aromas is exuberantly expressive and the rich detailed and powerful broad-scaled flavors are firm but not imposingly austere while culminating in a relatively refined and lingering finish. This should be excellent in due time, which is to say 12-15 years hence. (Allen Meadows - Burghound) Learn More -
Domaine Jean Monnier Pommard 1er Cru 'Clos de Citeaux' 2005 Magnum 1.5L
€139.95Medium dark color, with a rich earthy character with faint notes of sou-bois. Good length and ripe and polished phenolic notes. This has the characteristic notes of a good Pommard: Length, silkiness and cherry notes. Located next to Comte Armand's Clos des Epineaux, this 7 hectare monopole is one of the best sites in the village. It is not made in a super-rich style, but the length and very elegant cherry notes promise the quality to come with a bit more bottle age. Learn More -
Château L'Evangile Pomerol 2006
€145.00The sexy, dark ruby/purple-tinged 2006 l’Evangile achieved 14% natural alcohol, as high as any of the great vintages at this estate. Abundant amounts of dark raspberry and black cherry fruit intertwined with sweet plums and hints of figs as well as spring flowers jump from the glass of this medium to full-bodied, fleshy, supple-textured, silky wine. Drink it now or cellar it for 15-20 years. (93 points Robert Parker) Learn More -
Bollinger Grande Annee James Bond Special Edition 2002
€150.00This is a double special wine for the world's favourite Secret Agent! It comes with a box like no other - a replica silencer for 007's pistol that has a secret code needed to open it so that you can get to the bottle! Not only this, it is one of our favourite Champagnes and the new release of their extraordinary 2002 vintage. Learn More -
Ornellaia 2009
€150.00The 2009 Ornellaia caresses the palate with layers of seamless, radiant fruit. Sweet red berries, mocha, flowers, new leather and spices are some of the many notes that are layered in this sumptuous, totally beautiful wine. The 2009 stands out for its silky tannins and phenomenal overall balance. This is one of those wines that will probably enjoy a long drinking window. There is little question the ability to blend grape varieties was a huge help in this vintage. In my opinion, that is the main reason Ornellaia is a slightly more complete wine than Masseto in 2009. In one of my blind tastings, the 2009 made a very eloquent case for itself as the wine of the vintage. The blend is 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 22% Merlot, 21% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot. In 2009 winemaker Axel Heinz used the highest percentage of Cabernet Franc ever in Ornellaia and gave the wine less time in oak, both with the goal of preserving as much freshness as possible. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2029. Learn More -
Dom Perignon 2003
€160.95Disgorged Jun 2010, scheduled for release early 2012. I had tasted a bottle that had just been disgorged a couple of weeks earlier and this second example seemed to have a much more persistent finish. Very much part of the Dom P family with its reductive, smoky nose with tight lemony fruit and a hint of citrus peel. Beautifully balanced - perhaps not quite as intense as the marvellous 2002 but there is no hint of its being a heatwave wine and it still has lots of unfurling to do. Ramrod straight in structure. Bit of a peacock's tail on the finish. Thoroughly satisfying. 18.5 Jancis Robinson Learn More -
Château Lynch Bages 2005
€161.00Out of stock
Sold out in most places, so a great opportunity to get one of the greats from one of the greatest vintages. The history of Lynch-Bages is intimately tied with Ireland, when Irishman, John Lynch arrived on French shores and became firmly established in the merchant class. His son, Thomas, received a dowry of the Chateau and lands in Pauillac. Classified in 1855, the "5th growth status" doesn't do it justice. Nose of black olive tapenade, dried herbs, liquorice and cassis. A medium body with light tannin, sweet fruit, and a juicy softness. Quite "forward" for a 2005 and drinking nicely already, but it will improve over the next 15 years or so. Learn More
