  1. Bollinger La Grande Année Champagne 2004

Bollinger La Grande Année Champage 2004

A rich lemon colour in the glass, the fermentation of the base wine in oak and a long period of maturation in bottle is immediately evident in the colour of this 2004 Bollinger “La Grande Annee”. Whilst the aromas of this Champagne are not particularly pronounced, there is a persistent chalkiness, enlivened by wild flowers and apple aromas. A somewhat reticent toastiness and brioche sweetness appears slowly with a hint of ginger.

Gorgeously rich and luxuriously creamy on the palate, this 2004 Bollinger “La Grande Annee” retains balance by offsetting the richer peach, brioche and toasted notes by including the acidity and flavour of a red apple’s flesh and that persistent chalky minerality. There is certainly power here, but nuance too and few vintage Champagnes offer length greater length than this 2004 Bollinger “La Grande Annee”. Learn More

  5. Taylor's Quinta de Vargellas Vinhas Velhas 2004

Taylor's Quinta de Vargellas Vinhas Velhas 2004

    Out of stock

Massively concentrated wine with intense black fruit and dark bitter chocolate aromas. Gives the impression of an enormous brooding wine waiting to express itself. Fills the mouth to bursting – almost overwhelming in its intensity. An array of flavours then hit the senses – dark bitter chocolate, ripe, rich black plum, cherry, blueberries and blackberry jam. The wine is chewy, fleshy, full of grip. Although the structure is big the balance is finely tuned, so the sensation is of a wine with enormous force, but also great finesse and elegance. Flavours of cassis, blackberries, liquorice and molasses tantalize the palate, with a finish that is deliciously and pleasingly long. Learn More
  6. Taylor's Quinta de Vargellas Vinhas Velhas 2009

Taylor's Quinta de Vargellas Vinhas Velhas 2009

Deep purple black with narrow rim. The nose is quintessential Vargellas taken to a sublime level. Powerful linear fruit, plum, black cherry and cassis set against a dark exotic background of rosewood and clove. The heady fragrance of violets contributes to the sense of transcendent, multilayered complexity. On the palate the dense thickly textured tannins are coated with sumptuous fruit flavour giving the wine massive volume, weight and grip. But it is on the long, rich tannic finish that the wine displays its resilience and energy. Learn More
  7. Taylor's Very Old Single Harvest 1964

Taylor's Very Old Single Harvest 1964

During its five decades of ageing in oak casks, this wine has taken on an attractive pale mahogany colour with olive amber highlights. On the nose the wine displays fine oaky aromas and complex spicy, nutty, cigar box notes against a warm mellow background of butterscotch and molasses.

The smooth velvety palate is lifted by a crisp acidity which gives the wine an attractive freshness in spite of its age. The finish is immensely long with rich, spicy, black pepper flavours lingering on the palate. Finely constituted and beautifully balanced, this rare Single Harvest Port would be an exceptional tribute to any 50th anniversary.

"Good quality port is one of the longest living wines we can buy. If you're a fan of vintage port it really does make sense to age it for decades if you can" - Jancis Robinson.

    Chateau Lafite Rothschild 1998

This incredible estate was able to make a wine, in this rather awkward vintage, that Robert Parker described as "near perfection". A piece of wine-history, nobility and hedonism, this is regularly one of the best wines in any Bordeaux vintage. Learn More
