  3. Giuseppe Vajra Barolo Dinner at Etto, November 18th

Giuseppe Vajra Barolo Dinner at Etto, November 18th

    €95.00

On the 18th of November, in Dublin's Etto restaurant, we'll be hosting Giuseppe Vajra for a five course menu with six accompanying wines. Giuseppe is the winemaker son of owner/winemaker Aldo who established the estate in 1968 in Barolo, Piemonte. Starting with Nebbiolo for their Barolo wines, they remain fiercely traditional. They adhere to old-style winemaking methods, such as ageing their Barolo in barrel for three and a half years prior to bottling. They do, however, marry the traditional with new techniques. Vajra defends his approach, saying that "traditional wines are more elegant, with more delicate perfumes, leaner, somewhat difficult, but offering more pleasure at the table." His wines lack the power found in those from Serralunga or Monforte, but thanks to their skill in the vineyard and deft touch in the winery, the wines have a sinewy texture, a Burgundian intensity and a purity of flavour that makes them stand out in Barolo. 4. Spring Wine Tasting Course

    Spring Wine Tasting Course

    €150.00

The next of our popular and always over-subscribed wine courses will start on Tuesday, 3rd February and the focus is on The New versus The Old World, though there is always healthy debate on what actually constitutes "new" versus "old". Tina Iorlano will lead the course (and the debate) and together, we'll taste and talk about eight wines every week, allowing a really interesting insight into the way that different countries and regions, using the same grapes, can produce totally different wines! We kick off at 7.30pm every evening, running for about two and a half hours. A perfect Christmas gift, but please book early to avoid disappointment, as places fill up fast. Learn More
