Details
Patrick (in the vineyards)and Christophe (pictured, who works in the cellar and on sales) took over the family owned vineyard in 1990. Their father Charles Bonnefond owned and worked 2.5 ha and sold the grapes on. His sons started bottling their own wine in 1997 after a period of growing the estate to just under 7ha.(20% Côte Blonde and 80% Côte Brune)
According to Robert Parker the Bonnefond Côte-Rôties 'have been among the finest of the appellation since 1998'.
They craft very intense Syrah into three different cuvées. Not afraid of new oak (30% on the base wine sometimes 100% on the Roziers and Rochains) but the wines are concentrated enough to flourish with strong oak ageing. These are masculine wines- mostly Côte Brune and a minimal (2-3%) use of Viognier which age very well and demand hearty food!
