Quick Overview

The outstanding 2009 Cotes du Rhone-Villages Cairanne La Brunote (60% Grenache, 30% Mourvedre and 10% Carignan from white clay soils) was aged 12 months in larger wood demi-muids before being bottled unfiltered. Revealing slightly more concentrated blue, red and black fruits, lavender, incense and white chocolate notes, it offers an opaque ruby/purple color along with full body and a long finish. There is not a hard edge to be found in this voluminous, multilayered red. It should drink nicely for 5-7 years. 91 Wine Advocate

Details

This domaine covers 25 hectares in the highly promising village of Cairanne. The village of Cairanne is now one of the best of the eighteen Côtes du Rhône Villages that are deemed good enough to show their name on the label and Denis Alary is without doubt amongst the top five producers of the appellation. The vineyards are split between the slopes of the village, known as the Font d'Estevenas and the plain that sweeps away towards Rasteau, Seguret, Sablet, Gigondas etc... The grapes from the slopes give freshness and complexity, whilst those from the plain give richness and power. The red wines from the estate come from Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre, Carignan, Cinsault and Counoise. They are vinified traditionally in cement tank and then blended in old casks. Some of the cuvees will spend time in barrels so as to give an added sophistication.
